Choosing a Christmas tree

Anne lead me astray from a young age! I was 10 years old she would have been 24. She decided we'd ride our bikes to somewhere near Plaxtol from West Malling. Cycling was never my strong point.

What started off as fun on a sunny autumn afternoon turned into a nightmare as we got lost. We seemed to be going to and fro along the same stretch of road. It had become dark and the batteries died on my bike lights.

This meant we had to walk two abreast at the side of the road pushing our bikes with Anne's ( still with a faint light) nearest the road. Eventually we found our way to Offham leaving us with just a mile and a half to walk!  Having not eaten since lunch I was really hungry by the time we got home which coincided with my bedtime

This was just one of many occasions we got lost, usually in her A40 van. The last time I got in a car with Anne not long before her dementia diagnosis we went to Swanley Village to visit our Dad's grave. Anne grew up there and knew the area much better than I did. She missed the turning. Things worsened from then but I have many happy memories from years ago. If I had put this to music it would have been Telstar by the Tornadoes, that always reminds me of Anne.
